There a number of operating systems using the name ChaOS, most being variations of Linux, with more appearing each year, ChaOS is a neat name. Our ChaOS is different, and has been around for over a decade. ChaOS is a small 32-bit PC operating system which has been under development since 1995. It is used in a small textile company based in Manchester, England, to run a print machine and C02 laser CNC. It may be useful to other companies or individuals who would like to have complete control of a PC for similar reasons to us. It is not a full-featured system in the Unix, Linux or MS-Windows sense. But it has its own compiler, linker, and of course complete source code. The basic operating system can run on PC with only 4Mb of memory. Running with full source code debugging requires about 16Mb, recompilation of the entire system requires about 48Mb. We released a demo version of this software over the internet in 2005, to determine whether there is a demand for this software. The demo fits on a 1.44Mb floppy disk, created by a utility program included in the compressed archives available on our download page. Please email your comments, whether good, bad or indifferent to the address below. If we receive enough feedback, we will release our full CD version by air mail worldwide for $10, including full source code for the operating system, compiler, linker, editor and utilities, and hard-disk bootstrap. Once installed on a hard disk, ChaOS boots in under 5 seconds.
